Late Work
Late work will be accepted with a penalty to the student’s grade. There will be an announced date when no more late work will be accepted.

Make-up Work
When a day or more of school is missed, it is the student’s responsibility to find out what the assignment was and how to do it. They can ask another student or the teacher at an appropriate time. The assignment will also be posted online.

Behavior
It is crucial for all students to behave properly in class. Acting up or disruption in any way not only hurts that student but all students in the class. Minor offenses will be recorded. The first time is a warning. The second time there will be a conference with the student and a parent contact. The third time will result in a call home and an office referral. Major offenses will be referred to the office.

DEAR
We will utilize Drop Everything And Read. It is important that the students bring a chapter book every day to class. Not only will they be reading, but they will also write a reaction to what they read. This will be collected at the end of the week. If they are absent, They can still read and write a reaction.

Rules and Regulations
  • DEAR will begin when the bell rings for class to start.
  • All students are expected to be in their seat when the bell rings and reading a book.
  • No electronic devices, including cell phones will be permitted in the classroom.
  • No passes will be given to go to the locker.
  • Restroom passes will not be given in the first or last 10 minutes of class. Each student will get 2 restroom passes per quarter.
  • Do NOT give your locker combination to any other student.

To the Parents
I recognize that it is difficult to help your child with their school work. It’s also a difficult struggle to get teenagers to talk to us. That being said, we need to look for ways to make sure they are learning the material. Below are a few questions that are not too invasive and can be asked at any time (dinner, getting ready for school, as they walk in the door). These questions will also give you an indication if they know what is going on with their education.

What did you read in Language Arts today?
Tell me something about the main character?
What do you like about that character?
Who is the bad guy in the story?
What did they do to make them bad?
What character do you relate to the most?

The best part about these questions is you don’t need to know the answer to tell if they know what they are talking about. If it’s possible, try reading the same book as your child. Even if you have different view points, it’s a way to communicate. Please let us know if we can do anything to help.
